HELP & SUPPORT
Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common device, grid, storage, and capture questions.
How many stakes are used?
Exactly four: TheStake device is mounted on the reference-corner stake, and three additional modified stakes are placed immediately outside the other corners of the square excavation pit.
What grid sizes are supported?
The current concept supports 18, 24, and 36 inch setout modes. The projected 2 by 2 inch capture grid covers the complete excavation floor.
Does the device require internet access?
No. Device control, microSD storage, and Bluetooth transfer can operate offline. Internet access is required for live NWS weather retrieval, cloud synchronization, and remote sharing.
What happens without a microSD card?
Data is transferred to the paired mobile app over Bluetooth. The app should remain connected and have sufficient device storage.
Is GPS precise enough for excavation recording?
The device concept targets GPS/GNSS positioning for site and corner records. Final production claims must be validated against the selected GNSS hardware, correction method, field conditions, and archaeological recording standards.
Can image and LiDAR capture be separated?
Yes. The operator can select image only, LiDAR only, or both for manual and timed capture workflows.
